Breathwork
The practice of breathwork has existed for thousands of years and is rooted in yoga. Breathwork encompasses various techniques in which the conscious use of breath restores balance in the body-mind system.
When we're stressed or anxious, our breathing becomes shallow and rapid, which signals danger to our body and keeps us in a state of high alert. Through conscious breathwork techniques, we can actively shift our nervous system from this activated state into a calmer, more regulated one. Slow, intentional breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system—our body's natural relaxation response—reducing heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and creating a sense of safety and calm.
Breathwork techniques have been shown to promote both psychological and physical benefits, including reduction of stress, anxiety, and depression, improvement of sleep quality, increased feelings of comfort, relaxation, pleasantness, vigour, and alertness. Breathwork can also help release stored tension and emotions held in the body, improve mental clarity, and provide you with practical tools to manage overwhelming feelings in real-time.
I offer breathwork in two ways: as standalone sessions for clients seeking specific stress or anxiety relief, or integrated naturally within therapeutic work when it can support the healing process. Many clients find that learning to work with their breath gives them a sense of control and empowerment when anxiety arises, with accessible techniques they can use both in session and in their daily life.
